Success on appeal depends upon the facts, the law and how well your attorneys understand the appellate process and how appellate judges make decisions. At Abrams Fensterman, we can’t change the facts, but we know the law and no one has more experience in or a deeper understanding of the appellate courts in New York.
Our appellate team is led by two former appellate judges. Bob Spolzino and Jeffrey Cohen. Both served as Justices of the Appellate Division of the New York State Supreme Court. Between them, they have decided more than 10,000 appeals. Justices Spolzino and Cohen work with the former Counsel to the Chief Judge of the State of New York, Lisa Florio, who manages the appellate practice; a former clerk to two judges of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, Daniel Alter; a former clerk to Judge Michael Garcia of the New York Court of Appeals, Aaron Zucker; and a former clerk to Justice Francesca Connelly of the Appellate Division, Second Department, Mark Goreczny, and others.
We’ve handled hundreds of appeals in state and federal court.
The insight that our appellate team has into how appellate judges think is unmatched in the State of New York. That allows our appellate team to draft briefs and present arguments that speak to appellate judges in the unique language that they speak in their own chambers, crafting your facts and the law into compelling arguments that reach the judges and their staffs in a way they understand. That’s the strength of our appellate team.
