Paul Wooten Featured in Connect to Northern Westchester on the Future of AI Regulation

Abrams Fensterman Partner and Artificial Intelligence & Cybersecurity Practice leader Paul Wooten was featured as an expert in Connect to Northern Westchester’s article, “Can AI Be Regulated?”

The article examines the rapidly evolving legal and regulatory landscape surrounding artificial intelligence, including recent efforts by Westchester County and New York State to address AI-generated content, consumer protection, privacy, cybersecurity and accountability.

Drawing on his experience as both an attorney and former AI legal engineer who helped build enterprise AI systems, Paul discussed a central challenge facing lawmakers and businesses: artificial intelligence is advancing faster than the legal frameworks governing its use.

“It’s not necessarily that existing laws don’t apply. It’s that AI is beginning to intersect with virtually every area of law at once.”

Paul also addressed the practical risks organizations face when employees adopt publicly available AI tools without appropriate safeguards, including potential exposure involving patient privacy, attorney-client privilege, confidential information and employment discrimination.
