Sylvia Goldschmidt, Esq., graduated from State University of New York at Buffalo, magna cum laude, obtained her J.D. degree from Brooklyn Law School, and thereafter an LL.M. degree in Taxation from New York University School of Law.
Ms. Goldschmidt has been engaged in the private practice of law in the field of matrimonial and family law, for more than forty (40) years. Her experience in this field includes the litigation of all aspects of divorce proceedings financial and custodial matters, negotiation and drafting of separation, settlement, post-nuptial and pre-nuptial agreements. Ms. Goldschmidt trained in the Collaborative Law and Mediation processes and has served as a mediator and Parent Coordinator in diverse and complex cases. She practices primarily in the counties of Westchester, New York, and Rockland, but also represents clients in Orange, Dutchess, Putnam, Ulster, Bronx, Queens, Kings and Nassau counties. Many of the matters managed by Ms. Goldschmidt involve are complex, sophisticated, and/or unique issues of law including cross-border and international matrimonial and family law matters.
Ms. Goldschmidt is a past President of the International Academy of Family Lawyers (“IAFL”) – US Chapter, former President of the New York Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (“AAML”), former member of the National Board of Governors of the AAML, member of the Executive Committees of the New York State Bar Association (“NYSBA”) – Family Law Section and a Westchester County Bar Association Delegate to the NYSBA House of Delegates. She is a past member of the Advisory Committee for the Honoring Families Initiative of the Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System (“HFI-AALS”) based m Denver, Col. Ms. Goldschmidt Is a member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (“AFCC”) and Westchester Women’s Bar Association, having formerly sat on its Board. Ms. Goldschmidt is a former Chair of the WBASNY Matrimonial Law Committee (statewide). Ms. Goldschmidt has been a faculty member for the American Academy of Matrimonial Law Annual Institute for more than a decade; co-lecturer at the joint program of the AFCC and AAML on advanced issues in child custody; and has been a faculty member of the AICPA Expert Witness Training Workshop in 2011 and 2013; lecturer for Pace Law School Continuing Legal Education Program, the Family Law Section of the NYSBA, AAML, IAFL, Practicing Law Institute (“PLI”) and other bar associations and organizations. Ms. Goldschmidt has also authored articles for various bar associations and publications. In addition to other distinctions and honors, Ms. Goldschmidt has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America for each of the years 1999/2000 through the present, with the further distinction of Lawyer of the Year in 2014 and 2017 in her geographic area, as well as being designated in New York Super Lawyers every year since 2012 with the distinctions of having been named to their Top 25 Westchester Lawyers (2007-2010 and 2012-2025), Top 50 Women in the New York Metro area (2019-2025) and Top 100 Lawyers in the New York Metro area (2019-2025) lists.
