In a landmark case brought against Amazon, workers alleged that Amazon had a duty to protect them from COVID. In May 2021, New York enacted a first of its kind law called the Health and Essential Rights Act (“HERO”) imposing duties on private employers to develop safety standards at work to prevent exposure to airborne infectious diseases. The law also requires employers to permit workplace safety committees. Just this week, federal OSHA announced an emergency temporary standard describing what employers must do to protect health care workers from COVID-19. This seminar will explore how employers can comply with and stay ahead of the ever-increasing rules requiring action by employers, and the risks of not obeying the laws.

This program will provide the following information: — A brief discussion of litigation against employer for exposure to COVID — A discussion of employer duties under the HERO Act and how to comply with them — A timetable for compliance — Penalties
