Katie Barbieri is an Associate in the Medicaid department at Abrams, Fensterman, Fensterman, Eisman, Formato, Ferrara, Wolf & Carone, LLP.
Ms. Barbieri works closely with health care providers and consumers to maximize available Medicaid coverage. She doggedly tracks down missing documentation needed to establish Medicaid eligibility, returns to Medicaid agencies for revised budgets when available to offset NAMI debts, and files the appeals needed to successfully process “two year old” claims.
During her tenure with the firm, Ms. Barbieri has handled hundreds of Fair Hearings in appealing the extent and availability of Medicaid coverage. While past results are no indication of future outcomes, she has a success rate of well over 90% in securing Medicaid reimbursement on behalf of the appellants that she represents. Prior to joining Abrams, Fensterman, Ms. Barbieri served as the Fair Hearing representative for the New York State Department of Health’s Traumatic Brain Injury Waiver Program. Having experience both defending and challenging Medicaid’s determinations makes Mr. Barbieri uniquely well-qualified to prosecute Medicaid appeals on behalf of her clients.
Ms. Barbieri has been selected as a "Rising Star" in New York Administrative Law by "Super Lawyers" since 2014. Each year, no more than 2.5% of the lawyers in the state are selected by the research team at Super Lawyers to receive this honor.
Ms. Barbieri received her B.S. from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and her J.D. from Cardozo School of Law. She is a member of the Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity.
