Deborah J. Piazza, Esq. is a partner and chair of the Bankruptcy Law Department at Abrams, Fensterman, Fensterman, Eisman, Formato, Ferrara & Einiger, LLP. Ms. Piazza works out of both the New York and Lake Success Offices.
Ms. Piazza's practice is concentrated on complex transactional, litigation and advisory work relating to various types of restructurings, commercial finance, chapter 11 bankruptcies and workouts. She represents corporate debtors, creditors, trustees and other parties in interest in various restructurings, financings, asset acquisitions and dispositions, and all other types of significant matters. She also has experience representing both merchant-debtors and liquidating agents in the disposition of inventory and other assets. Ms. Piazza also sits on the panel of chapter 7 trustees in the Southern District of New York.
Some of Ms. Piazza's significant representations and cases include Northwest Airlines, Enron Corp., Lodgian, Inc., Bradlees Stores, Inc., Casual Male Corp., the Grand Union Company, Able Laboratories, WCI Steel and Republic Technologies. She has also represented creditors' committees, large institutional lenders, distressed investors, asset purchasers and other major creditors and parties in interest in various cases including Lehman Brothers, General Motors Corporation, Lear Corporation, Circuit City Stores, Bearing Point, Lyondell Chemical Company, New York City Off-Track Betting Corporation, Stone Barn (formerly Steve & Barry's), Lexington Precision, Sababa Group, Mortgage Lenders Network USA, Delphi, Jacobson Stores, Inc., FAO Schwarz, and Big V Holdings.
Ms. Piazza has also spoken at various conferences and seminars on bankruptcy, restructuring and distressed financial issues.
From 1996-1998, Ms. Piazza served as a judicial law clerk for The Honorable Jeremiah E. Berk, United States Bankruptcy Judge for the Southern District of New York. Thereafter, she was recruited by the Bankruptcy Departments of Blank Rome, Weil, Gotshal & Manges and Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, respectively.
